History
Formerly known as Prahran South, the suburb`s name was changed to Windsor in 1891 after Windsor in Berkshire, England. Windsor Post Office opened in 1886. The suburb was originally a working class area, with Victorian terrace houses and workers` cottages making up the majority of its early housing stock. In recent decades, while the Windsor-end of Chapel Street has developed into the more bohemian and less expensive end of the street, ongoing gentrification and new real estate developments are making the suburb increasingly sought-after.
