South Wharf is a small inner-city suburb located two kilometres southwest of Melbourne's central business district. History
Formerly a part of Southbank's industrial and shipping area, South Wharf was gazetted as its own suburb in 2008 as part of a larger urban renewal strategy to link Southbank with the Docklands. The area was then transformed into a commercial and recreational district. The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre established itself in South Wharf in 2009 and a redeveloped riverside promenade now provides a seamless link between Docklands and Southbank.
