History
Following European settlement, the suburb was named after Richmond Hill, in London. During the mid-19th century, Richmond was a centre of manufacturing industry, with many factories operating in the area. The large suburb`s diverse range of precincts has resulted in it containing a wide range of residential architecture from most periods after the 1850s. While much of the suburb was a working-class district for the better part of a century, Richmond has been rapidly gentrified since the early 1990s and is today a much-coveted residential area.
