History
Malvern East was once a relatively small suburb but later expanded to incorporate parts of neighbouring Chadstone. The suburb`s three train stations: Darling, Malvern East and Holmesglen, opened in 1890, 1929 and 1930 respectively. Chadstone Shopping Centre was established in 1960 and since then has become the largest shopping centre in Australia, with annual sales exceeding $1.4 billion.

Chadstone Shopping Centre is located in the suburb`s southeast, on the Princes Highway. A number of commercial businesses, as well as a hotel, are found adjacent to the shopping centre.
