Kew East is a riverside suburb located eight kilometres east of Melbourne`s central business district. Found to the northeast of the larger neighbouring suburb of Kew, Kew East is primarily a residential suburb but also features a large portion of recreational green space and Kew Golf Club in its north, on the banks of the Yarra River.

History
The suburb is named after Kew, in London, which, like Kew in Melbourne, is found near a suburb named Richmond. Following European settlement, a number of farming properties were established in the area along the Yarra River in the 1850s. Kew Golf Club now exists on the site which was formerly a farm named "Belford". Kew East Post Office opened in 1924.

The Eastern Freeway dissects Key East into a northern and southern portion. Kew Golf Club, Willsmere Park, Green Acres Golf Club and Burke Road Billabong Reserve are all found in the suburb`s north, adjacent to the Yarra River, and are accessible from the south via Belford Road, which provides a crossing over the Eastern Freeway. The suburb`s main shopping strip is found on High Street.
