History
East Melbourne was one of Melbourne`s first suburbs, planned by Robert Hoddle in 1837. The suburb began development in 1840, shortly after the establishment of Fitzroy and Collingwood, and from the onset was a residential district for wealthy professionals. The Melbourne Cricket Ground was established on its present day site in 1853; Parliament House was built in 1856 during the Victorian Gold Rush; and Fitzroy Gardens were developed throughout the latter half of the 19th century. The suburb`s residential properties today remain among the most expensive and sought-after in Melbourne.

Parliament House is found east adjacent to Melbourne CBD on Spring Street.
