Van Gogh Flowers | Gorgeous fresh flowers delivered to Docklands today!
Docklands is a commercial and residential suburb located immediately southwest of Melbourne`s central business district. The area was redeveloped in the 2000s and now features an array of high-density apartment buildings and office towers, as well as some recreational facilities, the most notable example being Docklands Stadium. While Docklands is a separate suburb to Melbourne CBD, its high-rise buildings allow it to blend seamlessly into the towering Melbourne city skyline.
Following European settlement, Docklands was largely untouched swampland up until 1880, when it was developed into a bustling shipping dock area as part of the Port of Melbourne. Over the following century, the modernisation of shipping infrastructure saw Docklands become redundant as a port facility and by 1990 it was virtually abandoned. From the early 2000s, Docklands was redeveloped into a new multi-use district featuring a mix of high-rise apartment towers and office buildings. Docklands Stadium was completed in 2000, and the redevelopment of Southern Cross Station was completed in 2006.
Docklands Stadium (or Marvel Stadium, as it is currently known as, according to naming rights) is found in between Southern Cross Station and Victoria Harbour. Docklands Park and Point Park are found adjacent to the Yarra River; and revitalised esplanades provide locals and visitors with pleasant riverside walkways and dining venues.
