Van Gogh Flowers | Gorgeous fresh flowers delivered to Carlton today!
Carlton is an inner-city suburb located immediately north of Melbourne's central business district. Well-known for its Little Italy precinct and the beautifully landscaped Carlton Gardens, the suburb is coveted for its inimitably convenient location, as well as its well-preserved period terrace homes. Carlton is found between Parkville to the west and Fitzroy to the east.
Carlton was founded in 1851 at the beginning of the Victorian Gold Rush. Carlton Post Office opened in 1865. Much of Carlton's iconic Victorian housing stock was developed during the latter half of the 19th century. The world-heritage Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton Gardens was completed in 1880, and was the site of the first Parliament of Australia in 1901. Carlton's Little Italy precinct was established in the 1950s and '60s and is still thriving today on Lygon Street.
Carlton Gardens, home to Melbourne Museum and the Royal Exhibition Building, are found in the suburb's southeastern corner, adjacent to the CBD and Fitzroy. Bustling Lygon Street and its many Italian restaurants is located in central Carlton. Many of the suburb's terrace-lined avenues feature extensive parkland strips, a notable example being Drummond Street.
