Van Gogh Flowers | Gorgeous fresh flowers delivered to Burnley today!
Burnley is a small riverside suburb located four kilometres east of Melbourne`s central business district. The suburb features a generous array of parkland spread along the banks of the Yarra River, as well as a dynamic commercial business precinct home to the headquarters of David Jones and the Country Road Group. Burnley has historically been part of the greater Richmond area and is found between Hawthorn to the north and Toorak to the south.
Following European settlement, the suburb was named after William Burnley, a pioneer landholder in Richmond, and a local parliamentarian. Burley was developed in the 1850s, as part of the greater Richmond area, as Melbourne expanded east towards the Dandenong Ranges during the Victorian Gold Rush. The area that now contains Burnley`s commercial business park, as well as the University of Melbourne`s Burnley Campus, was originally an industrial precinct.
Burnley features a variety of green spaces along its extensive riverbank including: Loys Paddock; Burnley Golf Course; J A Loughnan Oval; and Burnley Park. A pathway along the Yarra allows pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy the river and eventually connect up with the Main Yarra Trail in neighbouring Richmond.
