Alphington is a riverside suburb located seven kilometres northeast of Melbourne's central business district. Largely a residential suburb, Alphington also enjoys a variety of green spaces found adjacent to the Yarra River and Darebin Creek and the suburb is home to Latrobe Golf Club. Alphington is located between Fairfield to the west and Ivanhoe to the east.

History
Following European settlement, Australian politician Sir William Manning named the suburb after his birthplace of Alphington in Devon, England. Alphington Post Office opened in 1858 and Alphington railway station opened in 1888. As with many inner-city suburbs, Alphington was subdivided during the boom period of the Victorian Gold Rush. The suburb developed most rapidly during the early 20th century with Queen Anne, Federation Bungalow and Californian Bungalow style homes being the most abundant in Alphington during this period.

Alphington's main shopping strips are based on Heidelberg Road and Wingrove Street, near Alphington Station. The suburb also features a small commercial business precinct in its north. Latrobe Golf Club and the Alphington Wetlands are located in the suburb's south, on the banks of the Yarra, while the Darebin Parklands are based in Alphington's north, adjacent to Darebin Creek.
